Beginner Surf Beaches in the Maldives

Most famous Maldivian waves are for experienced surfers. A few central-atoll breaks are used by schools.

Ninjas (Thulusdhoo) — a softer left with surf schools on the island.

Chickens (Thulusdhoo) — nearby, and more manageable on smaller days than on a solid swell.

Maafushi — excursion boats run to beginner-friendly breaks when the swell is small. Ask the school which reef they are using that morning.

Season: April to October, when the southwest monsoon sends swell onto the central atolls. Lessons are the right start: reef entries, currents, and boat pickups are not the same as a beach break at home.
