Best Dive Sites for Beginners

The Maldives is a strong place to learn to dive: water is usually 27–30°C, visibility is often good, and many reefs have a sheltered side.

Good first sites:

• House reefs on local islands such as Ukulhas — shore entry and a short swim to the coral
• Banana Reef (North Malé) — a classic site that is manageable when the current is light
• Maafushi-area reefs — shallow gardens used for Open Water courses
• Rasdhoo Madivaru — a manta cleaning station better saved for divers who are comfortable in a mild current

Choose a PADI or SSI center, ask about the day’s current, and stay inside your certification limits. A guide should brief the entry, the turn point, and the safety stop before you get in the water.
