The best time to visit the Maldives for dry, sunny weather is November to April, the northeast monsoon. May to October is the southwest monsoon: more rain, lower resort rates, and the main surf season on exposed breaks. Divers can visit year-round; manta and whale shark sightings follow local seasons, not a single national month.
Dry season (November–April): Northeast winds, calmer seas on many resort sides, and the busiest bookings. Book seaplanes and popular guesthouses early.
Wet season (May–October): Short heavy showers rather than all-day rain on many days. Visibility can drop after storms. Surf in the north and central atolls is most consistent then.
