Maafushi Island Guide

Maafushi is an inhabited local island in Kaafu Atoll, about 90 minutes by public ferry from Malé. It has dozens of guesthouses, restaurants, and dive centers at a fraction of resort prices.

Getting there: The public ferry from Malé is the cheapest option. Speedboats are faster and are usually arranged by your guesthouse.

What to do: Snorkeling trips, sandbank visits, dolphin cruises, and diving on nearby reefs. Tourists use the designated bikini beach; the rest of the island is a living community, so dress modestly in the village.

Where to stay: Most beds are 2–3 star guesthouses. Book directly or through the island’s dive and excursion desks, and confirm what the rate includes before you pay.
