Manta and Whale Shark Seasons in the Maldives

Manta rays in Baa Atoll, especially Hanifaru Bay, are most often planned for the southwest monsoon months, roughly June to November, when plankton stacks in the bay. Whale sharks off South Ari, around Dhigurah and nearby reefs, are looked for year-round and still missed on some days. Neither animal is a booking promise. Go with a licensed boat and follow the code: no touching, no blocking the swim path.

Hanifaru has visitor rules and can close the water to snorkellers when it is crowded. Check the current rule before you count on a swim.
