Tuna Fishing Season Guide

Maldivian fishing boats work the channels and the outer reef rather than a single “spot” on a chart.

Yellowfin tuna: Most consistent from November to April, trolling or drifting bait near atoll channels. South Ari and Vaavu are frequent starting points from Malé.

Sailfish: Often reported from December to May on the eastern side of the atolls.

Giant trevally: Year-round on reef edges and in channels, usually on poppers or jigs.

Charters leave from Malé, local islands such as Maafushi, and many resorts. Confirm whether the trip is catch-and-release, what tackle is included, and how the boat treats protected species.
