Overview
Ashaa Thila is in Meemu, shaped around a shallow crown you can almost see from the boat. Working depths are usually about 12–35 m, with 15–30m visibility when the sea is kind.
Best window: Southwest monsoon (May–Oct). Look for reef fish, surgeonfish, wrasses, grey reef sharks, trevally.

1. Entry
Reach the site by boat. Check wind, swell, and surface drift before you roll in — the GPS mark is the feature, not a guaranteed entry lane. On a calm day the shallow part is also worth a snorkel, clear of the boat’s ladder.

2. At depth
The show is near the top. Stay over the crown, watch your depth on the swell, and only drop the sides if the group is comfortable and the boat can still see you.

3. Coming up
Finish with a safety stop near 5 m and send up an SMB so the boat can follow you. Do not surface in a busy pass or under another boat without a marker.
Local tips
The profile suits beginner divers, and the current is moderate. Expect a steady push along the reef. Keep the group close and have an SMB ready before you leave the bottom.
Reef care
The top is shallow, so fins and cameras hit coral easily. Stay a body length above the crown and pack out everything you brought.
