Overview
Medhu Kandu is in Vaavu, shaped around a pass where lagoon water meets the ocean. Working depths are usually about 10–40 m, with 15–30m visibility when the sea is kind.
Best window: Northeast monsoon (Dec–Mar). Look for reef fish, surgeonfish, wrasses, grey reef sharks, eagle rays, trevally, tuna.

1. Entry
Reach the site by boat. Check wind, swell, and surface drift before you roll in — the GPS mark is the feature, not a guaranteed entry lane. On a calm day the shallow part is also worth a snorkel, clear of the boat’s ladder.

2. At depth
Spend the dive along the mouth rather than in the middle of the pass. Watch which way the water is leaving, keep the group on the sheltered lip, and let the flow carry you past the corner instead of fighting it.

3. Coming up
Finish with a safety stop near 5 m and send up an SMB so the boat can follow you. Do not surface in a busy pass or under another boat without a marker.
Local tips
The profile suits intermediate divers, and the current is strong. The pass can run hard. This suits divers who are comfortable in current: inflate the SMB early and plan to be picked up by a moving boat.
Reef care
Fins up in the pass, where the coral is often low and the sand is easy to stir. Take nothing, and do not hold the reef to stop yourself.
